Adults and childrens books
Books for adults and children are more often than not defined exactly into the relevant age groups. Most children would not want to read an adult book anymore than an adult would want to read a childrens books. However, some books do have a universal appeal to both children and adults; not only because of the subject matter but because the way the author has managed to communicate to both levels. This is a definite skill but based usually works best with those authors who treat children more like adults and adults more like children. A case in point is Roald Dahl whose wonderful magical stories about witches and giants are not so much fairy stories but humorous stories with a message that appeals to all age groups. Richmal Compton did much the same with Just William, allowing the antics of a scruffy school boy to delight children of Williams supposed age whilst giving huge enjoyment to their parents. The “Talking Books” have transposed “Just William” onto CD and broadened the appeal even more making long car journeys go much faster for all the occupants of the car. Internet sites selling books make there purchase simple and easy and the advent of “Kindle” allows them to accompany you easily on holiday. If you are too embarrassed to buy them for yourself you can always use it as a bedtime story for your own children and enjoy it together.
